Soon, Kim ventured into other countries and expanded the variety of imported furnishings she brought back with her. Timeless Asian furnishings had great personal appeal to Kim but this merchandise sometimes looked eccentric when positioned next to European items, plus, her vision kept expanding, so Kim began to look for a second location. A second store in West Hollywood on Beverly Boulevard, near the Pacific Design Center, opened and was called Kim3 Asian Art and Antiques. While the Santa Barbara store thrived with its eclectic mix, the Beverly Blvd store had a more concentrated scope because it focused on art, furnishings, and antiquities from Asia. Kim knew that the designers and decorators who frequented this section of Beverly Boulevard in search of furnishings for their clients would appreciate her savvy eye, and they did. This venture proved to be more successful than anyone foresaw. In 2005, this store moved to the Pacific Design Center where it continues to be a vital part of the Los Angeles design world.
As soon as the success of both stores was evident, Kim began to investigate other metropolitan locations. While investigating Northern California with an eye towards opening a San Francisco store, Kim discovered the splendor of Carmel Valley and was intrigued. When a quirky but wonderful location in the Carmel Valley with an acre of property and two nice buildings became available, Kim3 expanded once again.
Now, Kim3 has 3 dedicated stores, as well as a 13,000 square foot building located in Buellton, CA that is both our International Distribution Center and a growing retail outlet. The IDC is the center point for company receiving and distribution and serves our stores and customers peerlessly. Getting to know the operations and schedules of IDC is an important part of employee integration.
